House of the Gigantillos

Halfway between the Cathedral and the Human Evolution Museum, inside the Teatro Principal (theatre), we find the house of the “Gigantillos”, some traditional figures of the city of Burgos.

This is a cultural attraction that bears witness to the most deeply rooted traditions of the local history through well-known figures such as Gigantillos, gigantones, danzantes, infanzones and tetines.

The Gigantillos are two popular characters made out of papier mache, whose dance livens up the parades during the local festivals including the procession of Curpillos, and festivals of San Pedro and San Pablo, making them the most cherished figures of the city. The Gigantones are five pairs of figures that symbolise the different ethnicities around the world.
